Gunshots. Blaine’s head whips up as everyone in the choir room startles, Rachel jumping next to him in her seat. Mr. Schue looks towards the door, his eyes widening, and when a second gunshot is fired he snaps into action, rushing towards the doors and locking them.

“Guys, quickly,” he says, urgent, as he turns around. There is real terror in his eyes, and Blaine’s stomach twists sharply as Brittany lets out a soft cry behind him. This isn’t a joke, isn’t some drill where everything is laid-back and laughable as they wait for Figgins to come on the intercom and drawl about what an amazing job McKinley did, that they can all return to class now like everything is normal.

There is thick, palpable, bitter, suffocating fear in the room as the echoing report of the gunshot repeats and repeats itself tinnily in their minds.

Blaine’s hands are shaking so much he can hardly hold his phone. He has exactly four people he wants to call, and those four people won’t pick up their phones—his parents are at work, Cooper’s got some big audition today, and Kurt’s in class.

He’s almost glad, really. He can’t imagine calling his mom, telling her he’s locked in his school’s choir room while there’s a shooter somewhere in the school. He can’t imagine telling any of them—he doesn’t want them to worry. Which he knows is stupid. He’s never been this fucking scared in his whole life.

Blaine feels an arm wrap around his shoulders, and he instinctively flinches away at first. Sam scoots a little closer, rubbing up his arm and ducking his face close to Blaine’s.

“It’s going to be okay,” Sam whispers. Blaine doesn’t look at him, because Sam sure doesn’t look like it’s going to be okay. He’s shaking, too, but Blaine clutches at his shirt. He hopes he doesn’t throw up. “You want to call someone?” Blaine shakes his head, and the first tears slip down his face.

“I just want my mom and dad, and my brother, I want my brother, I want Kurt.” Blaine whimpers and pulls harder at Sam’s shirt.
